Debtor tracing

Tracking down a defaulter

Debtor tracing is a service requested by those who need to recover a debt from one or more insolvent, contumacious and/or untraceable parties.

Among the various activities to recover a debt, one of the first steps is to contact the debtor by means of the contact details you have or know: telephone number, e-mail address or, alternatively, by physically going to the home address when the latter is known. The debtor is contacted precisely to remind him to honour and perform the commitments undertaken.

Often, however, the creditor does not have the debtor's contact details and is not aware of any other information about him/her. In such cases, it is useful to hire a detective agency to track down the debtor's contact details in order to order him/her to repay the debt. One of the most common requests we receive from creditors, especially when they are assisted by a trustworthy lawyer, is to trace the debtor’s residence in order to serve him/her with documents (often including court documents) such as payment orders, summons, etc., so that these actually reach the defaulting addressee. It may also happen that the debtor's addresses available to the aggrieved party are no longer valid. Since they have changed and are therefore no longer valid, they need to be updated. In this case, too, contacting an investigation agency may be a useful means of obtaining information, including the debtor's new residential address, as well as a telephone contact.

In most cases, apart from the most serious ones where the debtor is wanted by national and/or international authorities, or in the event of a serial debtor who uses a dense network of nominees to escape creditors, it is possible to trace debtors by means of investigative searches to their contact and identification data, enabling those who have a suitable title to have their rights recognised.
